Literally was on the verge of putting my toasta in the bath with me every single morning before I would put on the 100 layers of itchy uniform. Also if you are a woman and it’s that time of the month just make sure your Mam knows because they need proof to let you go to the toilets. 99% of the teachers are horrible bullies specially the men. They think they can control you because they are older then you and think they are required to have respect. Am honestly so happy that I never have to go back to that prison again. If you want to save your kids mental health please never send them here.- XOX

I'm writing this under a pseudonym, in case I want to go back into teaching in the future. I am a former supply teacher and worked a few days at Thorp Academy. This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review like this. I remember leaving work at this school upset at the extreme 'behaviour management '.
I walked around the school and the kids just looked miserable. They were expected to behave like robots, when a bit of pushing boundaries is a necessary element of psycho-social development.
One very solid example I can remember was covering a Year 7 physics lesson. I am not a science specialist. Usually cover work for non-specialist teachers is work based on previously taught content, but this was brand new content. Luckily, some of the class had previously done it at the end of year 6 in their former primaries. I was more than happy for them to help each other (they were getting the answers right, as I had them). They were a genuinely lovely class. Nothing I would call bad behaviour at all (which, frankly, is a rare experience for a supply teacher). The permanent TA was also happy with the behaviour. I then had a deputy head march into the classroom and give multiple pupils Cs (negative behaviour points. 4=after school detention). For what? I honestly couldn't think of a genuine reason. I think it was for talking. But they were supporting each other. Every single task on the rigid task PowerPoint I was given was meant to be 'independent' i.e. no talking all lesson except to me or the TA. They were a class of low ability 11 year olds, a large amount of whom were SEN. A lesson like that should not be set in any circumstance for such a class. But they were such a sweet and well behaved class, and it disgusted me to see them treated like that by someone who marched in with no context and rigidly enforced harsh rules. The deputy head spoke to me at the end about making sure I'm giving Cs out. I regret not making the case for that class, but he'd already made me late for a short tutorial the other side of the campus.
Later on that day, a year 9 boy wasn't allowed to go to the toilet. I'd allowed him to leave, but SMT wanderings the halls tried to send him back and stopped him from going. He ended escaping the campus and ran home to go to the toilet. I struggled to blame him.

Terrible school, they do not care about how students treat eachother as ive been bullied since day one, taken it to the school. They have done NOTHING. Ive tried to harm myself and even take my own life because of this school. Ive taken this up with teachers and they send me off with the excuse "we'll deal with it" and dont do anything. They also insist that they are all about individuality yet the smallest but of makeup or nail polish gets you into nore trouble then Youll be in if you tell someone to end their own life, i would know this because i will have remaining nail polish fron weekends and they will tell me to take it off, but when teachers see students telling me to end my life in the hall. Do they say anything? No they do not!!

Overall this school does nothing good to your mental health and if your even slightly dofferent everyone around you will gasslight you until you cave because they know that the safeguarding team will bot do anything.

The traditional system of do something wrong equals get a detention was something I was alright with (I agreed with)!.However the old detention system has been replaced with a new one called "consequence syestem" which comes with noticeable increase in expectations which I personally feel are pathetic reasons for receiving a detention . An example of this would be ' when in computer science I had delated a folder of work that I had done in a previous lesson because it was not what I needed and to continue working on it would be wasting lesson time.
I had taken a couple of days of due to a sickness ' so when I got in,there was new work to be done, so the logical thing to do would be to start this new work. So I did,i opened a new folder put the required title above
So I did that, then the support teacher said to me that I was not supposed to delete the work, but to keep it. I was confused as I had been told directly of the teacher to begin the new work so I told her about it. When I began telling her,she then told the teacher to give me a consequence, and when I tried to explain what I thought I was supposed to do (which is what i was actually was supposed to be doing ) the teacher then said " and you can have a c2 for being cheeky to the teacher ". Then I looked very much confused about this and
For that I then got a c3. At that point I was told to leave the class room by the teacher , but then I was speechless I tried to say something to him and then came the c4 (detention) I was handed a piece of yellow paper, then I was asked to leave and go to another room. So although like most detentions I receive which I do not deserve I still attended. I would talk about more experiences with that school but there all like that in a nutshell. Conclusion really just a average school, I would have gave it three star rating instead of a two star but it's just that ridiculous "consequence system".

I'd say it's good. You finish earlier than St Thomas Moore (I think) and its just, you know, it has nice learning surroundings.
If you have a child I would recommend Thorp. ?

all they care about is the way you look, if you have the slightest bit of makeup on ever they will stop you and say you need to get that removed or if you have something wrong about your uniform they go on like it’s the end of the world, I’ve been at this school 3 years and it’s getting me no wear
