I am sure if you were booking the place out for a birthday, hen party, stag do or even a wedding you may well enjoy this venue. I could see it working well for school parties, but for someone looking for a hostel visit this is not the place (you have to book out the whole venue for £900 a night) and for someone visiting for the historical element you are probably wasting your time, as it was more of a sale than a tour about the history of the building!||This had so much potential for a great visit, with the Cadbury connection and ghosts, but despite a tour round it felt like we were being shown round a building with the plan for us to rent out the hostel rather than a tour for history buffs. ||Set within grounds you could take a walk in, if the weather had been better this may have saved the day. However, on a grey drizzle soaked day, this visit fell flat and we left thinking this had not been really worth the effort. A shame as there is potential to make more of the tours, experience and history.

As life members of the YHA. We’ve used YHA’s many times whilst walking long distance footpaths. We are walking the Shropshire Way, the stage from Wheathill is 11 miles to Wilderhope YHA, then the next day 12 to Ironbridge. The YHA is the only accommodation in the area. I tried to book a room for myself and wife only to find its ’exclusive hire’ only. This means our walk from Wheathill will now have to go 18 miles to Much Wenlock.|The YHA, no longer caters for the independent traveler. They should rename themselves the HHA. Holiday home association. Shame on you YHA

What a stunning and magical place to have had our wedding. We feel very grateful indeed. A huge thank you to Laura and the team for preparing it so well for us and allowing us to make it our own for the weekend. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, from waking up to the enchanting sounds of the countryside to dancing the night away in the main hall. Thank you for the memories, Wilderhope Manor 🙂

Stunning is the only way I could describe Wilderhope manor. We decided to have our wedding celebration at this venue so booked the entire building for the 2 nights. The staff couldn't do enough for us throughout. They answered all our questions quickly and were able to help make our celebration as easy as possible. The bedrooms were comfy, clean and set up ready for us, and we were given the freedom to move around the tables and chairs downstairs to suit our needs. The backdrop was beautiful for our photos and suited our rustic pagan themed wedding perfectly. The bath in the Cadbury suite was a particular favourite of mine. |If you are looking for a unique special place to hold a celebration, then I would 100% recommend Wilderhope.

Thank you so much to Laura and team for a fantastic weekend. We hire the whole place for a friends get together. Everyone was blown away by the location, the incredible house and facilities (excellent beds, showers etc). We were lucky to have fantastic weather so spent most of the weekend on the patio while the kids played cricket. We walked 3 miles to the closest pub (which has recently been renovated) for Saturday lunch. All in all a perfect weekend away. X

This should no longer be allowed to call itself a hostel. It is now unavailable to anyone not booking the entire place. Basically it now exists for wedding parties, not walkers of the Wenlock Edge. The YHA have forgotten their history and betrayed their purpose. Wilderhope was donated to the National Trust on condition that it always be used as a youth hostel. This condition is not being fulfilled. A stunning place with a rich history which everyone should be able to enjoy and visit. The National Trust should remove this building from YHA management and reopen it as the Cadbury Trust originally meant their gift to be: the halfway hostel for the Edge.

This review is purely for National Trust members and not for people staying at the property or for passing ramblers thinking of visiting. First I will start with the positive. The building is a very nice Elizabethan gabled Manor house and the setting is very lovely. If you were planning a hike in the area then it would definitely be worth including in your route or doing a short detour for. If however you are thinking of driving here just to visit the property as an NT member for a day out then I personally would not waste your time and fuel. Although the NT allow visitors from 14:00 till 16:00 on certain days please be warned that the property may still have YHA guests staying. The property may also be hired out by an entire group staying for the evening. Either way if this is the case you will not be able to visit the upstairs and of the two downstairs rooms you can visit these will likely be occupied by staying guests along with their bags and coats etc. You will therefore feel very uncomfortable looking round the rooms whilst staying guests stare at you wondering what you are doing. You will feel like you are sneaking around a hotel you are not staying at. Now admittedly the NT website does state this but honestly IMO this property is just not worth a run out to especially if interiors are your thing. As another trip advisor review has already stated this property either needs to become 24/7 YHA or it has a dedicated NT visitor days throughout the year. The current set up is not viable for either the staying guests or the NT visitors. It certainly is not worth a drive out to and I personally would not recommend even if you are just passing. Also note there are no facilities like tea room etc.
