Rainbow Playrooms - Wakefield

I visited with my son on a Saturday morning.From the very start I was quite shocked by the lack of parking. Maybe it is silly of me to expect that a playroom will have at least a few dedicated parking spaces, but having to pay for the parking almost as much as you pay for the playroom feels silly. Plus the actual walk from the parking is annoying 🙄

The place itself was very chilly and quite dirty. Many people walk around the play area with their shoes on. High chairs could do with wiping. The drinks did feel quite overpriced. Towards the end of our play slot (which was only 1.30 hours), toys got taken away from the kids and put away - a tidy up session. My child did not appreciate that.

The story and singing bit at the end was nice but felt a bit rushed. After that it was made obvious that we were not welcome anymore.

Overall, I am quite disappointed. The place looks lovely in the pics, but the reality is quite different. Members of the staff are quite nice though!

My son's favourite place to go. The nicest staff members especially Nicole who goes above and beyond to make everyone feels welcome and heard. Such a lovely atmosphere and you can see your children play while enjoying a lovely brew. The singing and story time is what makes it stand out from the rest. We're frequent visitors and would recommend rainbow playrooms to anyone with young children.

Visited with some friends and my 10 month old, we booked online. We turned up in the afternoon and were greeted by a really friendly lady who made us feel totally welcomed. The pram park made a huge difference as it meant I didn’t have to drag my big pram in!
I ordered some food and a coffee, it was a really good price and well made - very enjoyable.
Our kids loved the environment. The only suggestion I would have is a bit of a clean up a few times in the day, although with it being school holidays and busy I’m sure this is hard. But it kind of felt like the place had been wrecked by other kids beforehand which made it a bit overwhelming. But having said that, my son didn’t really seem to mind so maybe it’s just something that bothers adults - suppose kids will play wether it’s messy or not.
Definitely will return next time I’m in Wakefield, the fact it’s in the city centre is only thing that makes it hard as cost of parking and getting into town can be hard sometimes, would visit this loads more if it was somewhere like Horbury. Can see how it being in city centre may open it up for more people who visit city centre lots though 🙂

I visited with my daughter earlier this week, she did have a great time and enjoyed the climbing equipment and home corner area.

However there wasn’t many recourses for this area - not much toy food to play with, especially to go round many children wanting to play in the same area. With the maths/construction area there was many parts missing so things couldn’t be completed. The play dough area was limited - there was a few chairs, but only enough play dough for one child. In the outdoor area, the water tray was dirty and hadn’t been changed from the day before. As well as the painting easel had dried up paint in the pot so no children could paint that morning.

I do like how open it all is and inviting for the children. It’s really bright and engaging for them with the displays around the setting. There is also lots for them to see out of the window with them been floor to ceiling which is nice.

The most incredible play and education area for young children and babies in Wakefield and surrounding. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere, with the best learning resources around. A very Montessori inspired area with both indoor and outdoor activities created surrounding a weekly theme, all of which link in with the EYFS. Lots of focus on creativity, kindness, inclusivity and individuality.

A really great place to take little children! When I first arrived I was really pleased to see it was set up in a large open plan room, so you have clear lines of sight to supervise your child at all times. The space felt very safe and secure.

There was a good range of toys, books and activities set out in the room and enough variety for the full 1 hour 45 minute session. The cafe looked to have a good range of food, offering non-dairy and vegan alternatives as well. It wasn’t too busy or crowded to the point that it was stressful, which is often a problem I’ve encountered with similar places. There was plenty of space for it not to feel dangerous.

At the end of the session there was tidy up and story/song time, which my daughter absolutely loved! It was a really nice way to help her understand that it was time to stop playing and put shoes on to leave.

The actual location was tricky to find as it wasn’t signposted. It’s a left turn after the canal bridge and down a cobbled road next to an apartment building. We parked in the waterfront car park, which was next to the Arriva depot and costs £3.50.

Overall, we had such a fun morning at Rainbow Playrooms and it’s somewhere we’d visit again and recommend to others.

Really nice staff and spacious and safe play place. All on 1 level which is great for easy supervision. Little onsite cafe for hot drinks, snacks and cakes etc. really friendly, would recommend! 👏

My daughter and I absolutely loved rainbow rooms today. There are so many toys and so much in terms of variety of activities for the children to enjoy. All the staff were so kind and amazing. Would go every week if we could. Thank you so much!
