Its taken me almost a year to finally find the words to describe my experience at chalkhill. Inpatient units are never going to be easy, and my experience will not be the same will not be the same as somone elses because we all process things differently. I am not going to sugar coat it, it was tough and the memories are tough to deal with even now but there where some good things. The school was good, you could tell the teachers actually cared and always tried to support you up in school even if it wasnt really what you wanted at the time. The ward tried to make things fun and I appreciate that, it made you feel less lonely. Unfortunately not all sides of chalkhill was postive and I’d be lying if i said it was. When i was there, they had a big problem with agency staff and that was difficult. Sometimes I felt like I was talking to a brick wall, half of them didnt say hello and I didn’t know their names! Which made communicating my needs extremely difficult. It seemed like they had no training in neurodiversity! they didnt read my care plan and didnt seem to care, which did damage. Some of the agency staff used to enjoy causing aguements BUT thats only some! And I know when I left they where making steps in improve and having less angency!! The regular staff where amazing tho! And well and truly saved me and no amount of thank youse could be enough! ❤️ no hospital can save you and thats the hard part you have to fight for your recovery!! I really hope chalkhill has improved

Hi its gracie (gracious) here <3! Honestly chalk hill is so great and is the best supporting team ever. i was a a patient there, chalk hill has helped me sooooo much, all of the staff were just a dream to work with and so kind, supportive, funny and at chalk hill its like a family there. I miss all the staff (mostly pete) and the patients soo very much, i have been there for 8 months from September 5th to may 5th. Its just such a kind community in there, all the patients go out of thier ways to make sure you’re okay. I will woke my very hardest to become a support worker there, i just love helping people and I admire how well the staff support and bond with each individual patient. I came into chalk hill with awful OCD and just recently recovered from an ED, i was so angry and anxious all the time and all the staff were brilliant at making sure i was going to be okay. When i was beginning to recover from my OCD, i would break into the office and the kitchen just for fun, the staff would have a laugh because they know i wasn’t going to be harmful to anyone. All the patients who were there when i was are so strong and powerful, they would go through the most painful days and still find the time to look after the other patients there including me. I never did poetry before I arrived but pete (one of the staff members) did petes poetry and it helped me express what i was going through and i wrote a leaving poem just for everyone to feel connected not distant from me leaving :). And now i have left, i literally can’t explain completely how much i am so incredibly grateful for chalk hill. Love you chalkhill thank you so very much for helping me be able to live my life again!!! And there are so many more staff i would love to talk about like danmore and Nathan, great nurses with totally different personalities but equally as amazing, danmore was there on my very first day and has succeeded to support me the whole journey at chalk hill. Thank you chalk hill.

I'm an inpatient at Chalkhill. The educational department staff is very nice but the work is too easy. Overall 3/5 but it is a very nice place to be 🙂
