Beautiful and homely nursery schools with a wide range of fun toys and activities that children can help themselves to. Independence is encouraged, children find their own peg and put on their own shoes or slippers. If they get it wrong, they have 'banana feet', and the teachers encourage them to try to fix it themselves! These nurseries are also forest schools, which keep a focus on British values and nature. Children can learn about their surroundings, where food comes from, being polite and kind, and how to care for their community and the natural world around them. Younger children start at number 25 and progress to number 59, with the ability for children that are deferring school to stay on and get prepared for school with an action plan. All children have their own folder to keep track of their development and a comprehensive report and review aged 2. Children starting from 18 months are able to gradually start at their own pace, parents are encouraged to join in with their child's learning throughout their stay at Acorns and come in to visit to 'stay and play'. Reading and music is built into every nursery day, as well as a weekly focus including a letter or number of the week. The children are just finishing a whole term focused on the countries of the world, and some of the parents have come in to make food from their country and give a talk about their heritage, which was both fasinating and a big hit with the children. Both sites have gorgeous gardens, which encourage outdoor learning and getting in touch with nature. Lovely friendly staff, who are happy to help guide parents and fantastic flexibility for hours, including adhoc childminding, plus a blog on the website that includes photos of what your child's been up to every week.
