Went with a friend for a meal and a few drinks. I made the mistake of ordering the 11oz rump steak medium rare.

Molly our server popped over a few minutes after serving us, asked if everything was okay. I told her the steak was a bit too rare, she agreed, and without hesitation it was cooked to a medium, with additional chips.

Great service by Molly, and lovely food made by Lucas and Katie. I'll be visiting again.

Excellent Christmas Day lunch. Everything was perfect. Food and service excellent. Molly is hospitality in herself, nothing is any trouble for her, she always makes sure every guest is well looked after. Molly is the hostess with the mostes. Thank you again for a lovely day. Merry Christmas to you all

It's a pity because the building is nice and has character, like the bar/dining area. Staff were nice and food was good. But the bedroom... All 4 doors to access the bedrooms were dirty where ppl push to open them (1st warning sign). The bedroom door was hard to open and looked like it had been prised open and no-one had bothered to repair it. At first glance the room looked nice, but I soon saw the walls were dirty, the TV aerial cable was dangling down the wall disconnected from the TV, the bathroom extractor fan didn't work, the toilet seat was the wrong size, the soap dispenser on the wall was dirty and empty, although someone had put another one lying on the side. See photos. I got the impression that someone managing the place has a no f12ks given attitude towards the place, which is a pity. A bit of attention could make the place look if not good, at least presentable. I pay the same and less in other clean and well kept hotels, which also have children's breakfast included in an adult's price.

Could not praise the customer service levels enough at this hotel! Stayed here for work purposes and was provided with a lovely range of food and drink. Despite them being busy everyone was lovely compared to other hotels in the area. Food was always served very quickly. I’d like to thank the manager Steve especially who made my experience 10x better.

Very impressed as not stayed in Greene King before. Excellent renovated rooms especially the bathroom. Also nice and warm with friendly service. Good quality towels and sheets. Great value food and super choice. Festive menu nice to have. Excellent breakfast. Very very good value as a stop over on route to York

For a working stay, this hotel was very functional. Not luxury or swanky, but clean and pleasant. The food in the pub was hearty and served quickly.

The only thing that spoiled the stay was breakfast being only served from 8am on Saturday morning, and nobody told us when we checked in.

Being so close to the A1, you would expect it to be noisy, but you couldn't hear the road at all.

McDonald's isn't a suitable alternative when you are expecting a full cooked breakfast to keep you going at work for the whole day.

We visited today for my mums birthday. It was a very very disappointing visit. My husband and I used to go to the Darrington every Friday but we moved further away so when my mum said we were going there for her birthday I was really looking forward to it. ||My daughter is milk free so we looked at the menu and couldn’t see any allergy information on there, I asked for the allergies list and was told I had to look on the app, when I looked on the app the only thing my daughter could have was corn on the cob, chicken nuggets and a jam and coconut cake which I ordered for her. I am shocked that there isn’t a bigger selection for children with allergies. ||There were 4 families as part of our group, we all placed our meal orders separately but at the same time.My nana and grandads main meals came out before any of our starters, my mums starter didn’t arrive at all and I had to ask for my daughters starter as that was forgotten about (it was only a child’s corn on the cob, the easiest of all the starters ordered). By the time we had finished our starters my nana and grandad had finished their mains so were sat waiting for everyone to eat theirs and felt quite awkward. Then the mains started coming out, again staggered so some of our party were still without food despite ordering at the same time. My brother and his wife don’t get their mains until everyone at the table had finished their mains. Every meal that came out was very cold, some to the point that it didn’t get eaten due to the lack of heat. All the food was either over cooked or under cooked and very bland. Plates were going back to the kitchen (when they eventually came to collect them) with lots of food still on them. The tables didn’t get cleared so we still had the starter plates on the table when our mains were on the table. Empty glasses again were left. The waitress bringing our food out was unpleasant and quite rude. The bar staff were lovely and helpful I will add.||I remember years ago going in and you couldn’t get a table, today there were very few tables filled which shocked me but after eating here I now know why. This is very sad to see as it was a great place to eat.

On our way back from Scotland, we used booking.com to reserve a double room one hour before our arrival. Chris met us at the door, took us through the pub (Hungry Horse) to the hotel reception. He completed the paperwork quickly and we went to our room. It was a reasonable size, with an en suite bathroom with shower above the bath. Everything worked well, but it is an old building. I noticed a small ribbon on the floor which was disappointing as generally the accommodation was clean.
We ate an okay evening meal and had a good breakfast. The cost of the stay overall was good.
