Hive is located in a nice area of the City, where house prices are extortionate. Nice environment, peaceful location. Initially pleased, however, experience turned sour. Concessions are limited to 2 people per course, so if you are on low income, tough. Also, be careful if you are on low income and pay full price for a course. Hive will not refund the full cost of the course, even if it is not as described and you report concerns on the offset. People that can afford the courses, are mostly 'the regulars' booking on popular courses each term, year on in. In terms of a 'welcoming community' vibe, majority of the time, this has been the case, but it is rare for ethnic minority tutors, and users to attend. I have as an ethnic minority person myself found, awkwardness with a Tutor and a couple of users that have a class superiority complex. So not so good for people struggling financially and feeling supported. This review is being left 9 months from the last time I went to Hive, as I am still upset with how I was treated. Unfortunately, the regular manager was off sick, and the committee members response to my complaint was disgraceful.

Doing a couple of access courses at Hive and so far so good. The courses lack a little in terms of teaching techniques as they are geared more to doing your own thing but good nonetheless and a great intro to various arts and crafts

I have attended classeshere for 8 years and you can learn pottery, stained glass, woodwork ... All sorts. It's friendly and reasonably priced with help for people on a low income.
