My daughter had her first Jiu Jitsu session yesterday (she’s 5 years old). She was quite hesitant and nervous to start. However, the coaches at Atos were extremely helpful and kind.

When the class began, one of the coaches approached my daughter and walked her onto the mats so she didn’t feel uncomfortable or alone. Whilst on the mats, I noticed that she began crying... And for this, I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Professor Tom - who instantly went over to my daughter and calmed her down in no time! He was absolutely amazing with her. My daughter’s tears vanished and she began smiling, laughing, talking and engaging with him, which I did not expect at all!

Professor Tom also helped her make a new friend in the class, which was ever so kind and helpful as I felt that this ensured that my daughter did not feel left out, given that a lot of the children knew one another.

To sum it up - my daughter absolutely loved her session! She was so excited when we left that she was asking when we would be coming back!

If I could give them more credit, I would! It’s tough to find gyms that cater to children in such a way; making it a safe, friendly, family environment. It’s very rare.

Could not recommend Atos Jiu Jitsu Sutton Coldfield enough! My son started his first 3-5 year old class and the team could not of been any more supportive. He was a little nervous at first with some tears. Professor Tom and Lucy were super attentive, caring and encouraging. By the end he was soo positive and excited to come again.

The team used their professional experience to encourage the kids to get involved by using the basic fundamentals of Jui Jitsu and fun games, which bring out bundles of confidence in the little ones.

Atos has a great community and togetherness; perfect example of what JJ is all about.

I had a trial class today, when I came into the building I was greeted warmly by Lucy who instantly began getting me set for my first class. She gave me a uniform for the class which was nice and clean. Dan helped me put on my belt and was so respectful.
When the class began Lucy joined to be my partner as I was the only woman amongst the students , which again helped me feel comfortable in this new environment. Dan showed us the moves and he has a great way of breaking down and explaining the technique so I , a beginner, could easily understand. I was lucky to be partnered with Lucy because she made sure I executed everything properly and within my own comfort zone. I finished class feeling more confident in myself and I have Lucy and Dan to thank for that.
I would happily continue to do jiujitsu with this establishment because of how good the trainers are at maintaining such a peaceful environment that welcomes mistakes and encourages growth.

My two girls 13 & 10 started 6 weeks ago, with my eldest not wanting to go at all, but after just one session came out with a massive smile, both now have their Gi's with the help of Lucy who couldn't be more helpful.
I can say this has helped the girls both in fitness & confidence with now practicing at home & with the help of Tom & the team this can only grow further.
Update: I have now joined the girls in the Atos family, it’s been a year for me now & with the world class Professor & his team of coaches we all have gone from strength to strength. If you have children this is the academy for them & you 100%

Shoutout to all the coaches who make this an excellent place to learn and excel.
Their teaching style is engaging and effective, focusing on instilling confidence and discipline in young learners. Highly recommend to any parent considering a self defence arts for their children.

The coaches at ATOS are absolutely world class and are very well connected within the global BJJ community. My experience is that Professor Tom, Coach Danny, Coach Lucy & coach Serena are very inclusive, tailoring their approach to individuals based upon ability. The team work very hard to build a real community within the gym that extends way beyond simply learning martial arts! If you are thinking about starting BJJ, give ATOS Jiu Jitsu a try, at least a trial session! I’ve been training at the academy since April ‘23 but I wish I’d started 10 years ago!

Send both my children to Atos to learn self defence , they have both achieved a lot more than self defence . All the staff are amazing with our children they go above and beyond just being there coaches 💙 best thing with have ever got our children into .
