What a wonderful place this is. Students learning hospitality and cookery skills. The chef's of the future while we enjoy their delicious food and attend a lovely venue. Don't forget the college also has a hair and beauty department, who require customers to help with their training. So you could enjoy a facial before lunch if you plan your day well enough. Term time only.

Nice to see the Balkerne Restaurant open again after the lockdown. Will take time for the old clientele to come back but the level of food preparation and presentation is still there. Inevitably, prices have gone up a bit since before the lockdown but so has everything else! Will be trying it again, hopefully before not too long.

I attended the college hair salon for the first time. Lottie was fabulous was articulate and made me feel like a million dollars!! She will be an amazing hairdresser when she qualifies. Everyone friendly..easy to park.

A great place to learn, at any age and a vast range of courses at all levels. There is working salons for hair, beauty and a number of Complementary treatments. Plus a fantastic training centre for hospitality and a working restaurant and bistro. A shop sells food freshly cooked by the students at lunchtime on certain days of the week.

Colchester Institute is to be avoided if youre a student with ANY disabilities. The sheer ableism and disregard for disabled students, especially invisible disabilities, is astounding. You have to fight constantly not to be discriminated against or to be given extra help, of which there isnt any. Even with medical letters provided. If you have any learning issues or physical disabilities i would avoid as a young student. Totally unsupportive. Only a handful of teachers are nice about being disabled but there are some reslly, really nasty ones.

Building works going on at the moment, fitting new energy saving windows. It will look great when completed. It will be the place to be when completed.

I can thoroughly recommended CI salons. Open to the public in term time to facilitate the Hair and Beauty students passing their qualifications in a realistic workplace environment. The services on offer are industry standard, (they use Dermalogica!) at incredible prices!

The restaurants operate in the same manner and the food is exquisite!

And having studied there myself I found the facilities excellent and the staff enthusiastic and very supportive.
