The Roundhouse - Derby

Went for an open day and landed a chat with the head of hair and beauty. Was going well until I mentioned my medical condition, explaining I’d need a few days off every few months for hospital stays. Was told this was unacceptable for the job and to look elsewhere/ go for a different career path as she believed if I were to join her course I’d need to have 100% attendance. After asking why there were no accommodations for people with disabilities she said ‘in all my years working here I’ve never had to introduce them.’ I believe the reason no one with disabilities has joined that course is due to the fact she is dismissing them before they even start. Walked out there crying feeling helpless and unwanted.

There is a public restaurant, you just need to sign in at reception - reasonable prices.

Derby College's Roundhouse has a lot of history around it, and this aspect is wondrous. You could call it a landmark in a sense, considering it's the first roundhouse ever built. Glossing over the campus with the rail workers in mind is pleasure in itself for people passionate about construction.

The roundhouse is host to many courses for students to undertake, and there is also a Starbucks, main hall, and small cafeteria for lunches. These annoyingly sell food overpriced, forcing many students to go to 'Intu Derby' for their lunch, although the Starbucks sells coffees even cheaper than their official counterparts.

For teaching, Derby College polarises itself. Sometimes it's effective, and then it isn't. And this is from the writing of a Johnson Building student. I have spent nearly two years at Derby College, and while I passed my first year, I feel like the teachers can let your full potential down. A certain teacher of mine that I had last year and now seemingly gets too frustrated when his students don't understand something, and this results in none of my co-students asking any pivotal questions. Another teacher, which has been teaching me for my second year, has failed their students. None of us so far have passes on any of their assignments, and they have not initiated any rectification on behalf of this and us. They carry on teaching in their own little befuddling and superfluous way. As for every other teacher that I have had so far, they have been exceptional.

Overall, the Roundhouse is a fresh new start for people who got unjustified grades at their school, or if they just want to advance their experience and potential.

Beware The Roundhouse College will leave you on hold for over 30 minutes and not explain why. I’m currently trying to get through to my daughters tutor spoke to a switchboard operator and I’m still on hold now!!!! Beyond a joke
