Had a lovely time at the 2 day plating course recently. Derek is very knowledgeable and happy to share all he knows, which is a rare thing!
All my questions were answered and more.
I now have a long list of tools I absolutely must have.
Derek has set up a wonderful workspace and is encouraging high standards as well as information sharing and lots of laughs too.

Myself and my colleague Andrew had the pleasure of attending Derek’s “General Watch Repair Course” that spanned over 3 days. We found the course incredibly beneficial and one that is useful whether you’re a novice looking to upskill or have slightly more experience.
Derek taught us the proper procedures to; take out a battery, remove links, replace a crown that had snapped from its stem, among many more things in great depth. He was extremely thorough when explaining components within a movement, divulging their purpose, how to fix them and how they may vary depending on age or manufacturer. He had a great deal of patience and made the experience very enjoyable which only reaffirms their recent award win for their outstanding service.

Overall, we would highly recommend the course to anyone looking to broaden their knowledge on watchmaking. You will definitely leave with a new found admiration for the field and a greater set of skills. 5 stars from the Finnies Team!

I attended the jewellers academy last year for the 40 week course… what an incredible experience, wish I did it sooner.
Derek and the team and my classmates who I trained with are all truly amazing!
We train in a very modern and high tech workshop with all the latest equipment and tools from companies such as durston, aqua flame, orotig just to name a few, who also visited as guests to give us advice, guidance and information about their company and the industry along with further training.
I met truly special people at my time at the jeweller academy and it offered me a chance to network with people in the industry who have different goals and paths but everything Derek taught us covers everything you need to know to get set up and started in the repair industry.
There is no other training facility like this in the UK. What Derek has built is special and one of a kind and I couldn’t recommend this academy more. Thank you to Derek, Cheryl and the team and all my classmates who I trained with.
Will definitely be attending more classes in the future.
