I feel very fortunate to have attended the Royal School for 7 years from Year 7 to Sixth Form. The education I received was well-rounded, and the nurturing environment allowed me to develop the confidence to tread my own path in the world of work after leaving Sixth Form. I will always look back with very fond memories of my time at the Royal, where I was given opportunities to explore all avenues in academics, drama, music, and sport. The teaching staff were inspiring, creative and always encouraged me to reach my potential. The pastoral support from the staff was hugely beneficial, particularly in Sixth Form, and I am so grateful to part of the Royal School alumni family.

We can't speak more highly of The Royal School. Both our sons have been through the Senior School and they have been very happy, achieved great results and have felt the full benefit of being part of such a positive and nurturing environment. With only 2 years left of our time here, we wish we could start it all over again!

Tread very carefully when considering this school

My daughter joined in Year 6 and left in Year 10. I've not regretted a decision more.

My daughter fell apart at The Royal School. Now 4 years later, she has no GCSEs , a mental health condition, self hatred, low self esteem and tried to commit suicide after being rejected by the senior leadership after 4 happy years of promise at prep and early senior school. Fantastic parents' evenings, good exam results and yet this constant reporting of petty transgressions and small observations. The destruction of her self esteem via petty criticisms, and watch her diminish and become anxious and self hating over 2 years was extraordinary. My daughter didn't fit apparently. She walked down the corridor the wrong way. She wore the wrong stud earrings. She didn't like French. There was an absence of care and a focus on conformity which paralleled a shift to a more traditional draconian Victorianism, a facsimilie of a girls' school - where compliance, subservience and religiosity informed the attitude and expectations of pupils on a daily basis.

The affect on my daughter and many of her friends was devastating. Many have also left.

Education is about creating robust well rounded members of society. This school did little to properly serve our young women and daughters in a fullsome, inclusive and modern way - to help them navigate life, to feel supported, and known and to be prepared in everyway to survive. Not to feel rejected.

Daughters are complex, their teenage years are difficult, but they are so so delicate.

Was a pupil here from year 7 through 6th form and was consistently bullied by other students and even a teacher. Despite being given plenty of information and actually providing proof of the bullying the worst punishment was being sat in the same room as one of the bullies and being told to shake hands and make up (this was in year 10) which as you expect, worsened the situation. On the day I final retaliated I earnt myself a nice weeks worth of detention and a talking too about how I treated others. On top of all this the education I received was good in the initial years of the school however entering GCSE years the teaching quality started to worsen. After GCSE it just went from bad to useless, the only reason I walked away with grades was due to the fact I paid for extra external tuition on top of the expensive school fees. Finally I got diagnosed with depression during the last term and the school was considered the main cause of this, I was granted the final half year off (it was lockdown anyway) however the school decided to cancel an insurance we paid for in case of situations like this without notifying us and attempted to make us pay for the final half year despite the national lockdown. After about a month of emails we finally got a response where they agreed to refund us but then just paid us the money they still took for the insurance they cancelled without notice instead of the money we were actually owed. My parents were handling the financial situation so I can't comment on if we actually got the money back due to being at university now however if I were to place a bet I'd bet against having the money back.

While there's a few good staff members there's enough bad teachers/upper staff which overwrite any could be decent decisions with a bad one. For both GCSE and 6th form years I seriously advise looking elsewhere.
