A lovely sunny day with the gentle purr of the electric engine accompanying the soundtrack telling us all about the history of the canal. The volunteers brought us drinks and snacks as we travelled along the waterway and answered any questions we had and assisted passengers getting in and out the boat. There is a toilet on board as well as in the car park and the wharf car park ticket machine only accepts coins in payment. Well worth a visit

Lovely leisurely trip on canal. Interesting to hear the history and life on the canal boat.
Rail workshop fascinating. Opportunity to feed the ducks.
Had hoped for horse drawn but sadly the old horse died.

Excellent trip. Very interesting and good value for money. Even though we were not there in good weather there are fold down window covers and towels provided! The additional mini tour of the boatman's cabin was really informative. The stop at High Peak junction was just the right amount of time too for delicious ice cream.

We had a wonderful two hours on the Birdswood cruising along the Cromford Canal. The commentary was most informative and the crew were both very friendly and extremely helpful. It was great getting close to the wildlife and learning about this very historic location and the lives of the people who lived and worked on the narrowboats. Great value for money and a great way to spend the afternoon.

Visited 6 years ago and again today.
Boat ride and commentary was excellent. Very relaxing chilled ride. Volunteers are very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and happy to chat to you. Seems like they really enjoy volunteering and are passionate about it.
The only thing I missed this time was the break in the middle. Last time we were given about half an hour to go explore the woods. It was nice to stretch our legs and have a walk after sitting for a while. We weren't allowed to do this this time which was disappointing.
Lovely scenic place, well looked after, parking was £3 for 4 hours, there is options for more or less but can't remember them. Ice cream van. Shop and cafe. Picnic benches. Toilets.

Just came back from a lovely trip on the Birdswood. The volunteers are absolutely lovely welcoming people and have thought of everything: from food for the duckies, to little activities for the kids, to a tour of the rebuilt living quarters. It's a lovely way to take in the atmosphere of the canals. Its not for the thrill seekers, though. It's slow. It encourages you to value slow.

Home of the Cromford canal boat. Canal trips to the old wharf and pump house which is still in a working condition.
