Great little castle with some interesting history centred around how it was used to defend the bay at various times.

It is a nice place to stop if you're in Dartmouth which is a really nice picturesque town in itself so a nice walk along to the castle is a great detour.

Without giving much away the castle isn't great, but combine with a visit to Dartmouth and perhaps a walk by the sea makes it something quite special.

Lovely little castle with church visit included. Great cafe nearby. Lovely views out onto the sea. You can take the ferry from Dartmouth Quay £3 each way, or you can also walk to the castle, which takes about half an hour. Need a dry day as steps can be a little slippery.

Dartmouth Castle is a great spot for a short visit. The site features a small museum area that highlights the history of cannons and their use. There's also a light show in the cannon room and a short film. The views from the castle are breathtaking, even on a rainy day!

Just as good as when we came back in 2018. Enjoyed the walk to here from Dartmouth main. Interesting history in spite of royal interventions. Our dog Amos had a wonderful time. There's also a good cafe selling good coffee near the entrance.

An easy and enjoyable 25/30 min walk from centre of Dartmouth (although there are a few spaces to park on site). You can also get a ferry to / from the centre which we'll do one way next time to make a circular route. The castle and church were interesting and held the attention of our teenagers for an hour! Great views. Also a coffee shop on site.

Brilliant. So much to see, read and explore. The castle is on different levels so there's a little walking to be done. Well worth it, fantastic sights from the tower. Plenty of cannons, information boards about guns, wars, soldiers, Dartmouth history, as well as the church and remembrance garden. E. Heritage, so free for members, around £10 if not. Little shop, cafe directly outside. Parking - there's a small carpark at the castle, but ample street parking on the way up to the castle. It's narrow roads to it, but we had no problem in the motorhome. Lovely woody walk, with stunning sea views.

Dartmouth castle is a beautiful castle with scenic views & lovely turquoise river.
The castle is English Heritage but can pay at the reception.
The castle is not wheelchair friendly or for those aren't steady on their feet.
Even parts of the castle, the most active may find difficult.
The disabled can access the gift shop.
The car park is small and meter paying except disabled blue badge.
There is a registration number recognition for your can in and out.

The castle is nicely located, beautiful scenery around the castle, walking paths with access to the beach.

Parking is available for a fee and very few parking spaces are available.

You can go to the castle by water, the boat costs 3f and from the castle to the city too.

Dog friendly

There is a cafe next to the parking lot where you can eat and drink coffee.
