Castle in Deal,Kent built by Henry VIII along with other coastal defences including Walmer Castle.
There is not really all that much to see here. You'll have to use your imagination and think how things would have been. Inside at the Mote level you can walk all the way around and imagine what life would have been like as a soldier based there. The ground floor has a few displays and there are some information boards and some fixed audio guides you can listen to. It's also possible to go up one more level and see the accomodation areas although these are mostly bare now.
Outside you can walk around and see where cannons were situated and enjoy a lovely view of the Kent coast. There are some info boards to read in that area too!
There is a small shop and there are toilets but no refreshment facilities, if you walk along the coastal path for about five minutes you will find a couple of places to get food and drink.
English Heritage members can use the car park free of charge by displaying an in date parking sticker and obtaining a free ticket from the parking machine. Non members are charged at £1.80 per hour.
The car park is monitored by the local council so please adhere to the parking rules or face a penalty.
Walmer Castle is just 5 minutes away, that's English Heritage too and has more to offer. Dover Castle,also English Heritage is 7 miles away and you'll need around 5 hours for your visit there.

My son and his wife have recently moved to Deal and took me for visit to this beautiful castle and gardens. We spent a lovely afternoon in the sun wandering around the grounds and admiring the stunning views.
Having worked up an appetite we went for lunch in the cafe and had a large plate of Sunday roast each. Very tasty and a fair price.
Definately worth a visit to admire this historically beautiful place.

Was a good visit, we visited with young kids and they had a great time. Some good interactive activities. There aren't a huge amount of facilities at Deal castle but plenty in the town or available at Walmer. Can easily visit both castles on one day and take a lovely walk along the coast.

I personally found this place more like a residence than a castle. Quite small but had interesting activities for kids to do. Even if you are an English Heritage member, you have to still print the parking ticket and place it in the car, which made no sense. There is no cafe inside.

Extremely well kept, in tact and educational experience. The young lady in the castle shop was so informative, and she told us she was relatively new to her position. So well done, you! We were impressed. Walking through, in, down, and around the castle does give you a sense of how it could have been. Thanks to dear old Henry, though, you can no longer get to the roof. Deal castle is definitely worth the trip, and it isn't an extortionate price.

A nice little English Heritage site right next to the beach to explore. There is parking on site which is free to English Heritage members but you need to get free ticket from the machine. The castle looks small, but there is a fair bit to explore. There are a few stairs and uneven surfaces and a few dark areas, but other than that, it's interesting to see it compared to nearby Walmer Castle. Guidebook avadible, or you can use the information boards dotted about. Looks like a good place to bring kids

An excellent example of a Tudor fortification / castle, built to withstand cannon fire. Originally built as a change of forts protecting the vitally important anchorage, just off the coast, it also enabled Henry VIII to project his power into France. The site has been opened up by English Heritage and is a must see for any castle enthusiasts. The staff are very knowledgeable.
