I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights to attend a conference. I found the staff very polite and extremely helpful. The rooms were very clean and equipped very well for the price. The bar was very good with a nice selection of beer on tap. The Leffe was a lovely pint and reasonably priced too. The breakfast included was lovely, cooked well and also had options of fruit and cereal with options of juice and hot drinks. The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect. Durham is a picture perfect town and the hotel is placed right in the epicenter of this beautiful place. Parking at the Hotel considering it's location was excellent. Well worth £11 a day payment in the hotel for peace of mind. Kudos to Gavin on the desk and all the other staff who helped to make our stay an absolute dream. I will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay in the middle of beautiful Durham.

Highly recommend. Excellent value for the money. All staff , especially the front desk, was very courteous, helpful and accomodating. The hotel has a comfortable, cozy atmosphere with an exceptional location. Convenient parking onsite at a very reasonable price. On site restaurant was delicious. Happy hour at the bar was a welcome bonus. Three of us for six nights shared a room with two double beds as we helped our daughter move in to her apartment to attend University. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable (although the bed was a bit stiff/hard). Generously sized bathroom was modern and clean with great water pressure!

3 things stand out about this hotel - the friendly service , excellent location and gym open 24/7. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and I could name several but will limit myself to two : Ehioma who greeted us at breakfast every morning and knew who we were after one day and Robert on reception who has been there for 29 years and is very helpful and knowledgeable. Bar food was good with meals available from noon through to about 9 or 10 pm and there were plenty of choices at the breakfast buffet. The hotel is situated only a few minutes walk from shops , cafes, restaurants and the Gala Theatre and cinema with theatre , concerts and films .

Excellent Staff but a Tired Hotel Needing
Only a few minutes walk into the centre of Durham means this is a really well placed hotel. It has views across the river and over to the castle and cathedral.
Finding the entrance to this hotel was more frustrating than expected — there’s very little signage on the outside, making it surprisingly difficult to locate. Once inside, the hotel feels dated, especially in the communal areas, and the layout is confusing, more like a chaotic rabbit warren than a modern hotel. The lift to reach my accessible room was extremely tight and only just fit my wheelchair.
That said, the staff were excellent throughout my stay. They were friendly, helpful, and genuinely went above and beyond to assist, representing the Marriott brand exceptionally well.
At the bar, there could be more awareness of the menu — when I ordered a cocktail, the bartender wasn’t familiar with it. My bedroom wasn’t fully accessible but did feature a modern bathroom with lovely quality toiletries and a Nespresso machine, which was a nice touch. The furniture looked a little worn, though the bed was very comfortable and offered a good night’s sleep.
Breakfast was a mixed experience. The buffet area was untidy, and food items weren’t being replenished often enough to stay fresh. However, the cooked-to-order options were delicious — my poached egg was perfectly runny and well-prepared.
Overall, this hotel benefits from outstanding staff and some nice touches in the rooms, but it’s let down by tired décor, accessibility challenges, and some operational issues that need attention. With a bit of refurbishment and better organisation, it could live up to the Marriott name.

As usual with Marriott Hotels they are to a superb high standard that we now have come to expect. |The Delta Durham Royal County did not fall short in an area at all. |We had an excellent welcome & service during our stay.|Our room was superb with all necessities you need & as usual a very comfortable bed which is signature of Marriott. |The food & drinks offer was good. |Breakfast was great, with plentiful food choices & very relaxed. |We did not dine in hotel. |The bar was also very good & Emily excelled behind the bar sorting our drinks order. |May I thank all staff for very enjoyable stay.|We will return.

We stayed here 'by accident' as our hotel had closed without notifying us. Stuart & Rob were absolutely fantastic! They saw how stressed we were & quickly got to helping us with a room, which was amazing! We were checked in within 20 minutes of arriving & they even gave us complimentary car parking & a couple of drinks vouchers. Fantastic service & we'll never forget our stay. Huge thanks to Stuart & Rob again, we're eternally grateful

The hotel was very nice. Clean nice atmosphere and friendly staff. My room was very good with plenty of room and a walk in shower.|The big disappointment was the food and service in the restaurant. We waited an hour before it was served then some of it was cold. second night we waited an hour and 20 minutes for service. The food was adequate but not filling. However to be fair, they did offer us a complimentary drink both nights. We don't usually complain, but we did this time and we were refunded the full cost of the three meals we had paid for and again a complimentary drink.|Apart from that, the hotel is in a brilliant situation to enjoy Durham and to travel about in the area and Durham has so much to offer.

Worst hotel I've stayed in, room wasnt ready at the 3pm check in.
Overall an over priced hotel and over priced Breakfast which was minging at 14 quid for a stale anemic crossant, stale apple turnover, bacon like leather, hard yoked fried eggs, bathroom was tiny so were the towels. No freebies in the fridge, for a £160 room you expect a couple of freebies at least a couple of bottles of water. Bed was ok, but room was warm too warm even with the heating turned off. I would gladly stay at the indigo again just up the road. Stayed in better hotels for cheaper price. Rant over.
