The actual building and people who come and absolutely wonderful, facilities are second to none, A+. However what really spoils this masjid is a minority of the elders running this masjid, who enjoy their lofty positions, whereby they can look down on their flock, feel superior, hold onto their positions, earn their bonuses through encouraging continued ignorance of the masses, fine if you're a sheep, but not much in educating and raising the level of the community in terms of knowledge and community cohesion.shame that!

I appreciate the masjid's efforts in serving the community and providing a place for worship.

No doubt the facilities provided r fantastic
However, I would like to highlight two concerns that I feel should be addressed:

Family Members Leading Janaza Salah
It is disheartening to see that the masjid does not allow a son to lead the Janaza Salah (funeral prayer) for his father. In Islam, the closest male relative of the deceased, such as the son, is given the right and responsibility to lead the Janaza Salah if he is capable. This is supported by several Islamic traditions:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) himself said:
“The one who has the most right to lead the funeral prayer is the one who is the wali (guardian or closest relative) of the deceased.”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, Hadith 3158)

This indicates that a son, being the closest male relative, has the priority to lead his father's funeral prayer. Denying this right goes against Islamic principles and deprives the family of a significant spiritual act of respect and responsibility.

Harsh Attitude of Committee Members
The manner in which some committee members interact with the public feels authoritarian and harsh. As representatives of the masjid, their behavior should reflect the principles of kindness and humility taught by Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) instructed us to treat others with gentleness:
“Indeed, Allah is gentle and loves gentleness in all matters.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 6927)
I humbly request the masjid committee to consider these points and align their practices with the teachings of Islam. Allowing a son to lead his father's Janaza Salah and ensuring respectful communication will not only strengthen the community's trust but also bring the masjid closer to embodying the values of our faith.

JazakAllah Khair.

I write this review as a regular visitor from neighbouring Leicester and work for university of Derby and come to DJM when possible.
This is a Sunni Hanafi Mosque located just off a Normanton Road. Parking in what is a residential/commercial area can be problematic. For locals it’s not an issue and is a brisk walk for many regular worshippers. The ablution facilities are clean as are the toilets.
The main hall recently had new carpet and really adds to the ambiance of the place. Plans in place to expand and improve the funeral services with an extension. The Imam is a great man and has served the community for decades.
