It was our misfortune to rent a Rectory from the Diocese of Derby in the latter part of 2024 & be evicted from it for no reason 10 days before Christmas, like some sort of reverse nativity.
Right from the start the Diocese were capricious about the availability of the property. First it was available, then no longer, then unexpectedly available for let again, so we agreed to rent it, as we were relocating back to the U.K., after several years living abroad.
Big mistake! On the first permissible date, four months after moving in, we were served a Section 21 no fault eviction notice without any explanation, only “they wanted the house back”. It hasn’t been re-advertised for re-let & no priest has been appointed to that parish, so my question is why? Less Christian behaviour would be hard to imagine from a religious institution. They treated us like the rent with eyes, despicable!
