Went on a roof tour with my boys. It was very interesting and the guide was very good. You need to book tickets, and I will do it again when they include the Bells being rung.

There is a lot of history here, and interesting too. However there is also a giant inflatable moon ruining the view and horrendous noises from the art exhibit like a reversing lorry, etc. Also a lot of renovations going on at the moment.

Exeter cathedral is one of the finest cathedrals in the country. It's largely 12 and 13th century (though there was damage during WW2 which required significant restoration. I visited in 2023 and November 2024. The request for a discretionary donation has now been replaced with a formal admission price of £10 (£8 for seniors). Unfortunately quite a lot of the cathedral is undergoing restoration - which seemed to me even more extensive in 2024. It's possible to do a guided rooftop walk which I would strongly recommend but for that it's essential to book ahead online. Otherwise there are free guided tours conducted by knowledgeable volunteers happening roughly every 2 hours.

It was worth visiting the Cathedral. Our visit was spoilt a little by having to pick our way across a site of the Christmas market that was being dismantled. Health and safety around the exterior was more than lacking with trip hazards.

Lovely place, although did not agree with the placing of the giant moon in the middle of the open space...
But be that as it may, it fit the space well and was unintrusive

Unfortunately some of the cathedral was closed of to the public due to renovation work which was bit of a shame but it's an old building so you have to expect this from time to time. Definitely still worth a visit 👍🏻🙂

Stunning cathedral. The people inside were so friendly. One of the volunteers (I didn’t catch his name) was so eager to share some really interesting facts. He was so kind. The place is just stunning.
