My memories of Turnpike Lane from my younger years weren’t the most positive—small butcher shops and a somewhat unimpressive atmosphere. But over the years, this area has transformed drastically. It’s now my go-to spot for groceries and other essentials, with Wood Green Shopping Center just around the corner serving as my hub for almost everything, even my barber.
In the midst of this vibrant area, by the grace of Allah, I’ve discovered an amazing Masjid that has truly set in my heart. From the outside, as you’re driving up the road, you wouldn’t think such a grand Masjid with a dome and minaret would be nestled here. But as soon as you step inside, the ambience is incredible—peaceful and welcoming.
I stumbled upon this Masjid while searching for a place to pray during a visit to Turnpike Lane, and Alhamdulillah, it has become a significant part of my life. I’ve even had the opportunity to cover their 40th-year anniversary through my work in social media. The event highlighted their journey as a community, and it was deeply inspiring. Recently, I attended a ghusl workshop organized by the Masjid and led by a local Muslim funeral director. It was educational and heartfelt, demonstrating the Masjid’s commitment to serving the community.
The Imam, Shaykh Qazi, is incredibly approachable and kind. Whether you need advice or just someone to talk to, he makes you feel at ease. The Masjid itself is spacious, with a large prayer hall, a function room for events and lectures, and facilities for a madrasa. What truly stands out is the diversity of the congregation—Muslims from various backgrounds coming together in worship and community.
One of the most heartwarming initiatives is the father’s breakfast mornings, where brothers gather to share their thoughts, feelings, and challenges in navigating fatherhood in today’s world. It has given me a sense of belonging and a space to connect with others on a deeper level.
I am incredibly grateful to have found this Masjid. May Allah protect and preserve this beautiful place and the community that makes it special. Ameen.
