I visited Monkton Wyld Court for a few days for a personal writing retreat. The bookings coordinator was incredibly helpful and accommodating, allowing me to stay in the wooden cabin in the grounds, as the rooms in the main house were fully booked for the dates I wanted. It is a quirky but stunning place (beautiful old vicarage and grounds). The views were breathtaking and it is very quiet and peaceful. The staff were lovely and invited me to eat dinner with them. I would thoroughly recommend this place for people wanting to get away from the busyness of life for a few days whether to write, or just take a break. I came home refreshed and rested and having done lots of writing!

I stayed at monkton last weekend as I was booked on a course with Bare arms locally. Stephen was very helpful with checking me in and knowledge of the property and the amazing community they have, Catherine made us fine meals for the duration of our stay from organic produce grown on the land at monkton. Rooms are comfortable and clean and enough bathroom space for everyone. After a five hour drive the lovely room and meal fit for a king was a blessing. Thank you too you all at monkton wyld and best of luck for the future of you amazing project.

I stayed for a week to finish a draft of my novel, and the environment was perfect for this. The residents are friendly, and the other guests were as well - but not so much so that it distracted me. There is a tiny pub where you can have a drink and chat at the end of the day, the beds are comfortable, and they gave me a massive room with a sofa and armchair, which meant I could write in various locations around the room all day. ||||The writer's retreat is full board (self-service breakfast, plus cooked lunch and dinner), and the food is incredible - vegetarian (often vegan) and delicious. It was a perfect environment, and I'm hoping to come back again. ||||This isn't a luxury place, but it is perfect to get some work done, meet interesting people, and hear about sustainable agricultural and lifestyle practices. The other guests while I was there were mostly walkers or other people on writing retreats, or people there for courses/events. It has a great community feel as a result.||||The other thing to know is that it's not very near cities/towns, and I don't drive. It was fine, as I was able to walk (a couple hours) to Lyme Regis, and got a taxi from the nearby station (you can also get a bus, I think). Just something to know - for me it was good, as it meant there were even fewer distractions! ||||Tea is provided but I recommend you bring your own coffee and snacks for during the day. The pub is mostly beer and cider.

Amazing place run by lovely people. We had a really easygoing short break staying here. It's got so much character and the area is fantastic. It would have been nice to have hung around a bit more for the atmosphere/social interaction but we had little time and a few plans. It is a hostel (and I think they're clear about that up front) so don't expect hotel-style service but it had everything we needed and more. I've stayed in quite a few hostels and this was very pleasant and comfortable

A truly fantastic place. Lots of room for kids to run around, nice people and a great way of self-catering for breakfast. The rooms are always clean and ready for the next person. The staff there are very friendly, definitely would go there again!

I went to stay there for one night as I was attending a course.

I loved it. The building is special. Lovely stone work. I slept in the one dorm. It was simple, clean, tidy, minimalist. Lovely comfortable bed and duvet, clean towel. The shared shower was no problem as I am an early riser.

The staff and volunteers are all lovely people. Welcoming, friendly, willing to help with anything. It's like being with family.

The food was warming, veggie, and the staff willing to cater for any allergy.

The group I was with had a fire going outside. We had a lovely time there.

I will go back in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work.

It looked lovely but there is a very peculiar atmosphere. I was glad to leave, a day early. Uncomfortable — spooky. and somewhat scruffy. Staff seem uninterested in guests. Cannot recommend for solo lady travellers.

a beautiful hidden jewel. from arrival to departure I was very well looked after. accommodation is basic but comfortable. Staff were amazing, helpful, and knowledgeable. My last evening was made extra special by an impromptu musical evening sat outside in the garden drinking beer from the garden pub. the night sky was clear and the stars shone brightly a truly magical experience.
