We had a free entry voucher for National Trust so thought we would visit here. The car park is 4£ and the machine only takes cash. You can download an app if you don’t have cash to pay by card. We went on a Sunday and there was quite a few cars. The man in the reception was really friendly and explained where everything was. We got to the house, large bags have to be left in lockers (free) while you go round. The house is beautiful full of art / antiques and history. You could spend hours in the house alone.
We then went to the servant quarters which was interesting - definitely worth a look. After that we went for a walk in the deer park / gardens. We were lucky to see some deer and had a long walk round. Shame the weather wasn’t nicer. After our walk we went back to the servant quarters to use the loo and to get a hot chocolate. Prices in the cafe were really reasonable for the kind of place that it is. We didn’t eat there but the food looked nice. Would definitely go back.

Huge amount of wonderful art in a well preserved national trust building with absolutely stunning ground surrounding where you can go for walks with breathtaking views. Lakes, ponds, trees, wide fields, lots of benches for picknicks and hundreds of deers grazing freely give tons of opportunities to get your camera well used. Love it.

Fascinating insight into the old kitchen, still room, dairy, and other places where food was stored and prepared. Parts of the main house are very old, going back when the house was first built in the late 1790s. Grand rooms with old furnishings and lots of old paintings by renowned artists, and sculptures in the Greek style. Lovely grand staircase with views over both town and deer park.
We had a good coffee and cake in the cafe!
Excellent walk round the lake in the deerpark: hundreds of Canada Geese, some Egyptian Geese, Coots and a few duck. We saw some of the Fallow Deer. The park is beautiful. Wear strong shoes.

We visited at Christmas and the displays in the house were lovely. I almost forgot to look at the architecture and art. There are an amazing number of Turner paintings.

Stunning and large house with a huge collection of artworks by artists including Turner ,Van Dyke , JWM Turner and Titian.
The decor in the house is quite amazing with walls and ceilings painted and the incredible " carved room " There are also more private rooms which are open on selected dates throughout the year.
The property is part owned and run by the National Trust and they have guides in many of the rooms who have a great knowledge of the history of the house,it's inhabitants and many of the artifacts. The rooms also have folders containing information about the paintings statues and other art works.
They are also talks and tours during the day which you can book to go on. There is no additional charge for this.
Across from the house is the former servants quarters and also the kitchens which were partially run by steam!
It gives a real insight into what life was like for the serving staff and cooks etc. Again there is a guide who can paint a picture of how things were and how the appliances worked.
Also in this area you will find the tea room and the second hand bookshop. You will find toilet facilities here too.
Outside there is a large estate to walk around with a deer park and a lake. The area was designed by Capability Brown.
The car park is about 600 metres from the house but there is a buggy service for those who need it,otherwise it's a pleasant walk.
There are toilet facilities by the car park opposite the entrance hut.
Parking and entry is free for National Trust members and chargeable for non members.
Memberships is from £7.30 a month for individuals but there are offers available for families, couples and 17-25 years olds. You can join on site or via the National Trust website.
This is a fantastic place to visit with much to see, I spent the whole day there and still missed the wider area if the deer park, the woodland walk and only managed to see the Rotunda from a distance.
