Two years ago I approached Mai to join the Suffolk Writers Group. Through Courses run my Mai I have learnt to appreciate the wonder of different types of poetry with others on her courses. I hated it a school. My creative writing skills have developed to think about flash fiction, and even shorter stories. The people I have met are incredibly generous with their encouragement and constructive comments. All facilitated by Mai whose experience she willingly shares, including helping you improve and challenge yourself. The company of other people on the courses with a passion to write is a lovely bonus.

I 've completed writing courses and poetry courses with Mai and really enjoyed them . Mai leads classes which are stimulating and really help to get you thinking creatively, building your confidence with the help of others on the course who are supportive and friendly. She makes sure that everyone's work is valued, whatever stage in your writing journey you think you're at. Will be signing up for more in the future!

I am making the transition from Data Monkey to some kind of Creative Producer and the Suffolk Writers Group is proving a great discovery.
Mai has been quick to identify my strengths and dislikes and has focused my efforts in exactly the right areas for me to develop my craft and work towards a new way of paying the bills.
At a time when our society and economy are going through the washing machine and nothing is certain (and I am redundant and vocationally impotent), it has been reassuring to be able to structure my week around a regular session with Mai and very satisfying to have a project to work on.

Mai’s encouragement and support throughout the course has been exceptional. Mai Black’s poetry and writing sessions have kept me sane during lockdown. The sessions have a wonderful informal feel with a great group of like minded individuals. Brilliant for both experienced and novice writers. I have attended all the courses since lockdown and enjoyed every one.
