I'm afraid that the Courtney pub has now been closed and is no longer trading.
Sorry to see another good pub go.

This is my favourite pub in Teignmouth, Neil the landlord is absolutely brilliant in everyway and definitely makes a huge welcome to us all, me and my misses definitely put this as our local pub! Sadly we know it's up for sale but we hope it don't turn into something awful by losing our social comfort zone.
If your in the area pop and have a drink it's a great place.

AVOID THIS PUB , MOST UNFRIENDLY PUB IVE EVER BEEN IN!!!

My wife and I arrived in Shaldon yesterday with our two sons who are 23 & 21 for a weeks holiday and after a great night at the Pavilions we were looking forward to playing a few games of pool and having a few drinks to finish off the evening .

We saw that the Courtenay had two pool tables so we went in and my wife was about to order our drinks and I was just about to pay for the first game of pool when some bloke rushed over and told me not to bother putting any money in if we didn't have our own cues! I thought he was joking but apparently not . I asked him if he was joking but he told me again we couldn't play if we didn't have our own cues😱😱😱😱😱😱

He then proceeded very quickly to turn off the lights in the section where the pool tables were situated so we left !!

I have played pool all my life, have played In several different teams and I left my cue at home as I didn't think I'd need it. My son even commented that I should have brought it with me but in over 45 years of playing pool I've never been in a pub that demands that customers bring their own pool cues.

The pub was extremely quiet when we went in and if this is how they treat holiday makers it's not surprising that they were so quiet .

AVOID THIS PUB AND FIND ANOTHER ONE TO PLAY POOL WHERE THEY ARE MORE WELCOMING TO CUSTOMERS AS THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS IN THE LOCAL AREA.

Very well run pub with pool darts etc. Great pint always a warm welcome from Neil the landlord . Not many of these places left now as most have turned to food to survive. Always a warm welcome from the friendly locals too .

The gentleman who was working at the time, think he may be the landlord, was extremely rude, abrupt and confrontational, he made me and my partner feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. My partner is exempt from wearing face masks, when the gent asked my parter to put a mask on he explained hes was exempt, I had my medical appoved mask on and my parter presented his exept card only for the gent to say he is not exempt in here its not essential to be in a pub so therefore we wernt welcome. The gentleman said all this whilst wearing a neoprene snood barely perched on his nose. The pub was empty, he was doing table service outside and wasn’t allowing people in which made the whole thing more confusing. It seemed the gentleman was out to pick an argument and unfortunately we were the unlucky customers to get the brunt of his frustration, needless to say we left and went to the lovely cafe opposite called brunch where the staff were polite and the smoothies are incredible.
Upon reflection (and watching from across the street), I would not like to drink there as the place looks an absolute dive filled with people who are shouting, swearing and being generally intimidating. Will avoid. Not what I'd expect to see on a Saturday afternoon at one of our beautiful seaside towns.

29/5/2021. After a very long drive to Teignmouth stuck in alot of traffic, I was hoping to grab a quick pint when I arrived. The bartender was so rude to me from the get go. I have a very good reason to be exempt from wearing a facemask and if taken to court I can release my doctor notes. He was abruptly rude, pointed to a sign saying no exemptions here! This is pure discrimination and when I challenged him he disagreed that this was discrimination. Absolutely disgusting behaviour and the way he spoke to me was appalling, this left me feeling very stressed out for the rest of the evening. People with health conditions deserve a pint now and again without being discriminated against because of serious health conditions. In future I hope they learn some people skills and show better manner when speaking to potential customers.
