We went here as my 17 year old son saw it and wanted to go.
After driving up the hill and over the track you are greeted by a small selection of buildings. I would note we did book before going and I think this is needed.
The tour is fascinating certainly my son loved it. Listening to anyone so passionate about what they do is always riveting. Tour is in two parts with near earth objects and the new telescopic. The human story and the work over so many years was to me the most fascinating. The passion of people and determination to make something happen despite so many obstacles was great to hear. My son found the near earth objects part riveting.

Thought I'd share this as it would be a great summer activity for family and friends.

Today I went to the Spaceguard Centre in Knighton. Ā£10 per person (not sure about children). Lots to learn about the planet, asteroids and the solar system. Very interactive guide around the area and lots to learn. They don't get any government support and rely on visitors to fund their projects. Some of which are still outstanding and due to be completed middle of next year. All work done is via volunteers.

Definitely worth a visit and a day out.

SafeGuarding Earth against space rocks! This little known observatory helps to track comets, asteroids & meteors in our solar system. They give a very informative tour with immersive imagery and real meteorites for you to touch & feel. Totally unfunded by UK government, its totally worth the small Ā£8 fee!

A unique and remote location. A really interesting and engaging explanation of what Spaceguard does. As you might expect, a little difficult to understand everything but gained sufficient insight to come away feeling I had been educated without feeling Iā€™m stupid. A very worthwhile visit.

This place is brilliant. I had their pamphlet and followed their guidelines.
Sadly Google maps let me down badly but that's not Spaceguard 's fault.
I thought the instructor was excellent and completely disagree with the other criticism.
I took photos of their display of meteorite parts for my grand-daughter who starts a degree course in astro physics at Manchester later this year.
It's amazing what can be achieved with enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers.

A very interesting an informative tour with lots of great visuals and you get to go inside a big telescope dome šŸ˜ƒ Guide Jay explained everything really well so that people of any knowledge level can follow/understand. Set in a beautiful landscape location although we went mid winter so it was rather cold outside admiring the view.
