Nice uni.
Y’all need a new vice chancellor though. All schools are closed and you guys still open even though it’s literally snowy and icy out. Don’t care for the safety of the students. You have teams available, why not close when there is ice and snow out?

I think I'm glad I dropped out of here in first year... I did games development if it helps anyone come to a conclusion.

Barely anyone understands if you have different needs and might need more help (and communication between the mentors and the school is atrocious, I had a mentor that was really lovely and did a lot to help me but the in-school support never listened to any of his concerns, even mental health concerns. I felt like apart from one of my lecturers, he was the only one that actually understood me and my needs) and if you ask for help most of the time they'll just say to Google it instead (basically they don't care if you're struggling really, they mostly only care if you can do the work or not). There are also note takers that can sit in class with you which I found helpful.

Teachers are very hit and miss and though there were some really great ones, there were also a lot of bad ones. For example one of my lecturers always came in 5-10 minutes late and when we did practicals he always did really complicated demos that didn't help to understand how to do the work, only what it should look like. This was also a teacher I was told is known for being ableist if that means anything to you... However I also had a really lovely teacher that always listened to me and helped me a lot if I was struggling, I don't think I'd have made it through first term 3d without him and I appreciate all he did for me (he also listens to your texts), the teacher I had for games design was also fabulous though unfortunately teachers like this seem to be extremely rare here for some reason.

Some rooms had missing software and older computers and when you asked technicians about it even they didn't know which rooms had what. Also the only free room is in Haslett, so walking to and from there between classes wastes a lot of time (and even then it had different computers in it despite being specifically for games dev students).

The in-school support was basically non existent. They barely did anything when I kept asking for support (sometimes not even telling my mentor), I did have a fitness to study meeting between them and the head of computing, but nothing changed despite concerns both me and my mum had. The mentors are excellent though but as I said already communication between them and the school is non existent, they're based in the student hub and you only get a meeting a week, for an hour. So that was basically my only hour in the week to de-stress, only for that to end and then end up immediately stressed again with how expectant some of these teachers are, luckily my mentor completely understood me and he did voice concerns about me several times to the in-school support, but this was always ignored. Also teachers ignored me a lot even though they could see I was crying from just how stressful everything is, which wasn't exactly helpful when I was doing independent work since I sometimes could barely think about what I was supposed to be doing.

Also, around halfway through the first term they started closing the school early which wasn't exactly helpful, as it takes me quite a while to get from where I live to there and back. And also despite picking games design they force you to do another term of either coding or 3d, which didn't exactly help my mental health because then I was constantly worried about subjects I didn't perform well in. Though as a plus, first term design is making board games, which is helpful for understanding the underlying structure of videogames, and my teacher for that was also super lovely.

As a final note, there are so many problems within the school itself that don't make it worth it, in short these are: unenthusiastic teachers that either barely or just don't care, the in-school support team don't listen to you, most of the self study rooms aren't up to date, school policy changed basically with no warning, and the games design course specifically seems like an afterthought to them.

Basically what I'm saying is take from this review what you will, it might not apply to all schools.

Everything was good about this University, ambiance facilities, professors; specially our HOD 'Mrs E Davis'.

Half of my degree i completed in new Business School and it was good to be there all the time. Town is small but at Uni you dont like it.
Only thing and most important that i didn't get from University was good job opportunity, i had to find my own job and it took nearly month but still i was not placed well, when the time came UK visas for international students/workerd were closed and no one was ready to give you Job, at last i came to India but as per UK education people were not willing to take us. Still haven't received what i deserve but anyways this is for university and i did learn lot there and the name on my degree provided by them and my hard work will pay off someday.

The games design course is useless and they expect you to already know how to do everything and refuse to actually teach a lot of the time. The teachers openly admit to being unqualified
